It’s been just over two weeks since The Dark Lord’s Handbook: Conquest was released and I’ve been doing some conquering of my own on the bicycle, riding up mountains in Mallorca.
The first time I rode up a mountain, three years ago, I had doubts about whether I would make it without climbing off — something that is an anathema to my cycling — for two reasons: the amount of effort required, and the heat. It turned out fine. I paced myself and poured copious amounts of water over my head as I rode, probably more than I drank. Now, I look forward to the mountains as up there, the effort is paid off handsomely by the scenery and the sense of well-being.
I’ll leave you to fill in the analogy between my personal conquests on the bike and my equal determination when it comes to writing. Long may both continue.
